These Skull malas are made up of 17 (+1 one of the skull beads is smaller) hand carved wooden beads. Each on the mala is different having been hand carved. This versatile set of prayer beads can either be worn as a bracelet or kept in its' bag for practising Japa meditation. When using these beads for meditation carefully explore each bead with your fingers while meditating, this action will help to keep your mind from distracting you from the meditation.
- Traditionally Tibetan Buddhist Monks used to carve their prayer bead into skulls to remind them of the transient nature of the world. The smallest skull bead is refered to as the summit bead, when meditating start at one side of the summit bead and work round the mala until you reach the summit once more. At that point etiher stop or return in a different direction, the summit bead must never be crossed.
